Lighting can be versatile and scenic, and it transforms the environment creating nuances and effects that incite moods.

A common mistake in lighting is the excess of points of light and inappropriate use of parts and types of lamps. It is common for people to use a lot of light and create various scenarios in the project. Intelligent lighting needs to be related to the family’s daily life, habits and schedules.

When should you think about enlightenment?

It is necessary to think about lighting right at the beginning of construction or remodeling right after defining the size and layout of the house. This facilitates execution and also avoids unnecessary expenses.

Thinking about the project increases efficiency and savings thanks to the proper use of products.

Another advantage refers to the execution time of the work that can be accomplished and thus avoid unforeseen events.

How should the lighting of each space be?

Each space requires a type of lighting and, therefore, requires a specific solution. The lighting must be in accordance with the interests and objectives of the client but also in accordance with the planning of the house.

Below we give you some basic and important rules in terms of lighting.

Living room

This space calls for softer lighting, punctuating coffee tables and sides, but without making the circulation too dark.

You can use an automation or a dimmer to control the intensity of the light and invest in indirect lighting, with the use of floor lamps and lamps.

One tip is to never put stitches on the sofa, armchairs or ottomans, as it can bother people.

Dining room

Good lighting over the dining table is essential, so a chandelier is recommended.

On very long rectangular tables, it may be necessary to install auxiliary points on the sides, as the chandelier usually has a more direct focus on the center of the table.

Kitchen

In the kitchen, the lighting has to be general, efficient and very clear. It is common to opt for white light, which is intense.

An important tip is to illuminate the work benches well: for this, you can add points of light with focus. Another tip is to use LED strips under the cabinets.

Bedroom

This environment calls for soft lighting. If possible, use the dimmer to control the intensity. Be careful not to project light on the headboard.

The area asks for indirect points, which can be solved with the use of lamps.

Bathroom

The bathroom asks for clear general lighting and a light in the place where the mirror is.

The tip is to use a diffuse or indirect light near the mirror, so that the face is illuminated evenly and without shadows.

What is the ideal height to place lamps?

When hanging the chandeliers and applying the sconces, be careful with the heights. The height of the dining table pendant should be between 75 and 80 cm above the table top.

When you want to compose pendants of different heights, they can vary between 75 and 90 cm. If you choose to measure directly from the floor, the ideal is for the chandelier to be between 1.60 and 1.70 m high.

In sconces, it depends a lot on the model, size and place where they will be installed. Although the design of the part influences, in general, they must be installed at a height of 1.80 to 1.90 m from the floor.

Ideally, the decorative sconces should be approximately 1.80 m from the floor.

Chandelier size

There is no rule. The most important thing is that it is proportional to the space and the height of the ceiling height.

It is also necessary to have the appropriate amount of light, and this can be done with luminaires of various sizes.

The use of spots

Spotlight lighting is ideal for creating more focused light on something that is intended to stand out as an object, frame or bookcase.

The use of this type of light has to be well thought out and installed in a way that does not overshadow the space user.

You need to use spots in harmony with the space, avoid using them when you have a very high ceiling and be careful not to cover the ceiling with spots.

It is often preferable to complement the space with floor lamps and lamps.

Dimmer

The dimmer is a device used to vary the intensity of light. Nowadays, it is possible to use it in 90% of the lamps on the market.

Picture lighting

The most common is to have a directable light for the work. In this case, care is needed not to damage the screen with excess UV, for example.

Also always consider the size of the frame before setting the type of light.

White light vs. Yellow light

A common question when thinking about home lighting is which shade of light to use: white or yellow.

It is common to opt for lamps with warm color temperature for intimate and social areas and for lamps with cold color temperature for work and kitchen areas.

If you are looking for sensations of warmth, yellowish and less intense lamps are recommended. If you need to identify the exact colors of things, as in the kitchen, white lighting is the most suitable.

A common mistake is to have integrated environments that use different shades. When the kitchen integrates with another space, for example, the ideal is to use the same color temperature so that there are no two shades.
